Playing On My Own….

Filed under: Just Me — David @ 1:58 pm

So last night I went for a padddle in the hotel pool. I had it all to myself, which was nice. I swam a modest 20 lengths before retiring to the sauna for 15 minutes, again I had this all to myself. Whilst lying there in the sauna, with my eyes closed my mind began to wander – more than usual that is. I won’t discuss what I thought about in this post, some of it is indecent to say the least. Instead I will make a separate posting later which will not be x-posted to lj, you’ll have to visit my blog to read that oneit’ll be password protected but if you know my surname you’ll be able to read it. Lowercase I should add. I’m not posting it like this because I am a prude or because I don’t want ppl to read it but merely because for some ppl it’s tmi and I prefer not to draw too much attention with sensationalist posts.
Anyway after my frollocks in the pool and sauna and a brief visit to the steamroom I retired to my room to drop stuff off and then went for an early supper. Dinner was delectable, if ever any of you are in Reading you must eat at the Novotel. It’s well worth it. I was chatted to by the delightful staff who recognized me from my previous visits. I was given advice on pubs to visit in town and fun things to do. So all in all it was very pleasant.
After my delightful dinner I retreated to my room. I spent the evening playing computer games, watching Battlestar Gallactica and chatting with friends on msn via my phone. Later on Kai and I had a long, honest and heartfelt conversation on the phone. Its hard to believe that on Sunday we’ll have been together for 3 full and busy years. Anyway class is about to start so time for me to go now.

Reflections in a Glass eye

Filed under: Just Me — David @ 8:05 pm

So last night I went card gaming in Eclectic Games in town. I had forgotten how enjoyable nights like that were tbh. A bunch of lads hanging out, playing cards, trading spares, teaching new comers and giving each other advice in between jokes and light, merry conversation. It was enough to make me forget some of my worries, for which I am very greatful for. I did spend a little cash on some of the new set for the WoW ccg (don’t mock it until you’ve tried it…), I played a round with a non-updated deck (which lost messily) and then – in the space of 15 mins threw a new deck together out of the new cards. End result was a deck which won one, lost one and drew on its last game – all against better equipped decks. So I was pretty pleased. :)
I got back to my hotel for about 1030pm, spoke with Kai, setup my x-box and a dvd and ran myself a nice hot bath. After 5 minutes in said bath, the fire alarm went off. After some swearing and a hurried rush to put some clothes on I fled my room….only to find out in the lobby that it was a false alarm caused by some prat wanting a smoke. Cold, wet and now more than a little honked off I returned to my room. I warmed the bathwater again, soaked for 15-20 mins (I know – women enjoy a nice bath more than me) before phoning Kai once more to say goodnight.

When I eventually awoke at 730am I panic’d, dove out of bed and into a shower, ironed my clothes (not at the same time) and departed my room after restoring the tv to hotel control. I had another delightful breakfast, vowed to go swimming and went to my course at 845am. After a 15min sweaty bus ride I arrived, class started at 930am. Lunch was ok, but not the best I have had here by far. Oh I also got more word on my poor car :( Looks like we’re going with the weld as a) I can’t afford to replace the gearbox (the warranty co won’t pay for it and in fact almost backed out on paying for the clutch) and b) I need the car back, soon. Kai and I have some special stuff planned this weekend and we really need the car for it. Considering we can’t afford the celebrations I would want for the occaision, a poor man’s picnic will have to do. There are times when I wonder if she would have been better off, financially and socially in Edinburgh with all our friends, I know how much she loves me, and I her but part of that for me has always been about making your decisions based on what would be best for your partner as well as yourself. Don’t get me wrong I love her being here with me, in fact there is no-one else I ‘d rather have but I still worry that the move was the best thing for her and the kids, I do wonder if I am worthy of her too sometimes as she is a great person who, I think deserves much better than I can currently give her. *sigh*

Oh well time to remove the hand stapled to my forehead and get back to work. I’ll post some more tomorrow.

Just Because….

Filed under: Just Me — David @ 8:00 pm

I have some time to kill before my lunch break ends so I thought I’d share some thoughts. Currently I’m in Reading doing some computer stuff.
I am rather down atm due to news that my poor car needs very expensive work and the warranty won’t cover all of it :s Basically there is a crack in the gearbox housing and its going to cost an arm and possibly half a leg to sort. Not good. On top of that I’m missing Kai and I know she misses me dearly whilst I’m away. Now we both knew that for the 1st 12 months of any new graduate job that I’d be away from home a fair bit due to training, I just think that we didn’t know how hard that would be, especially with the sess that T & L bring into the equation. These visits are harder on Kai than me to be fair, I’ve never been one to worry about being on my own for large periods of time and whilst I know Kai has a pile of stuff to work on, I know she won’t be sleeping or eating well during this time. So please feel free to give her a call and cheer her up.
I’m also stressed and still a bit depressed over money issues, no matter how much Kai and I work we’re always just balancing on the edge of the black and red. May will be no different, we have a wedding, council tax, car repair bills, credit card bills, rent and another trip to Edinburgh to worry about, most of that will come out of my salary, Kai has running costs of her own like the kids, food and numerous other things that will nibble at our budget but frankly the short of it is we’re not really managing to put much away for that rainy day, instead we seem to be living in the rain-forests at the moment..

Oh and as a side note I have downsized my lj friendlist. My reason for this is due to the fact I never really chat with these people any more, suffice to say though, if you can read this, then please don’t discuss it with anyone else.

Well…

Filed under: Just Me, Life, MMORPGS, RPG, World of Warcraft — David @ 4:04 am

…Today I took the day off – I love flexi time. I spent the day wallowing in bed, spending time with my beloved, Kai and getting medieval on WoW players asses. I also got a fair whack of tidying done, put some laundry together for next week and generaly relaxed – somehting I haven’t done in what feels like ages. I also tried once more to deal with my car – turns out the garage ordered (or maybe recieved) the wrong part *GROWL* so the car won’t be ready until tomorrow, if I’m lucky. :(

…This Evening I ran a very short chapter of my NWOD game  (due to a missing player), people’s minds weren’t really on the game so its just as well it was a short one. Afterwards we gen’d up their supernatural char sheets (they will need these soon) and got down to some serious board gaming. Now I like Shadows Over Camelot – I love the fact that its a bunch of Arthurian emo knights (they injure themselves to prevent bad things from happening and to get extra goes) – no offense intended; that go around and try to complete quests in order to save Camelot. I love the fact that I can make ‘Monty Pthon and the Holy Grail’ quotes whilst playing it but mostly I enjoy making my fellow players spray tea across the room at the humour the game invokes. For me tonight was a good night, we laughed, joked, we drank what felt like a sea of tea and Kai and I got to spend time with new (not a bad thing) but imho good friends.

I suppose I should mention….

Filed under: Just Me, Life, RPG — David @ 11:41 pm

…some stuff I have been involved in recently – Well Kai and I have finally met and made some friends down here and got an RP group running. Yay us! Currently we’re running NWOD and I think my players are enjoying it. We setup a wiki as a resource base at:

http://www.cheltenhamroleplaysoc.com/NWOD/tiki-index.php

So feel free to check it out. Hopefully our next session will be on Friday…
We also have a car now (though it needs a new clutch and is in the garage at the moment – grr) which is fantastic and we’re hoping we’ll get some more really good use out of it soon.  So far we’ve been to up to Edinburgh in it, over to the Forests of Dean and a couple of other places – I’m hoping for a trip to Cornwall sometime in the near future and at the weekend we’re planning a trip to Pitville Park (so Kai can see bunnies and squiggles and other cute little things that make her go ‘awwwww’ – no, not me.)
Life down here is pretty damn good, truth be told, currently we’re enjoying the nice, long, warm, sunny days (about 15-20 deg C. today) and has been for the last (and next few) days. So long may it continue!

I heard from me old chum Scott Dumycz today on his train home from London, he’s doing fairly well and said he was off to Brighton over the May day bank holiday with the gf….its the longest, full-time relationship I can ever recall him being in.

Anyway, Kai is pretty busy tonight lots of work for her to do, calls from the states and stuff so I’ll mostly be leaving her to just get on with it. I quite fancy going to the pub tonight but to be honest, money is prett damn tight at the moment – especially with the clutch to be fixed on the car! So it looks like I won’t be going anywhere in the evenings for the next few weeks :s

Its Been a damn quick month

Filed under: Just Me — David @ 4:40 pm

Well I’ve been working for a month now and boy has it gone quick. I’m loving my job, its really interesting and engaging, hence why I only realised that its been 4 weeks since I started…

Yeesh….4 weeks. Looking back at them now its hard to recall all we’ve done and achieved in that time. As a brief summary….

well, Kai has a laptop now, we’ve gotten to know more of Cheltenham, I considered being a baver scout leader again for about 3 days, we’ve been swimming and found our local pool. We’re working out how to afford a car (hopefully in a month we’ll own one). We’ve arranged for more family to come visit, the kids have settled right into school and Lexxie has a friend’s birthday party coming up. We still haven’t been able to get very involved in the RP side down here yet :s though we’ve gotten to know more of the major players in town pun, intended. Kai is now in charge of the NANO for down here and seems to be pretty happy about it, she has radio interviews and stuff to do for it, so all very exciting there….

And yeah….all in all its been pretty good for us imo. I’m still losing weight, as is Kai, I’m walking about 4 miles every weekday and also getting to the gym on average 2 times a week.

We’re still planning our trip up at christmas though current estimates look like we’ll be in town for about a week….

Anyway, please let me know how your all doing, I do wonder whats going on up in burgh and I rarely see any of you on IM atm.

Anyways.
